Bringing the Fair to us!
Since we couldn’t go to the Hillsdale County Fair this year, We brought the fair to us! The week included a parade, fair bingo, cotton candy, caramel corn, corn dogs, footlong dogs and ice cream!
It is important (maybe now through the corona virus, more than ever) that we provide some spontaneous lighthearted activities in an attempt to promote normalcy.
A favorite is room to room deliveries. Using a decorated cart, we deliver frozen treats while playing ice cream truck music, happy hour beverages with a 1960’s sing along, cotton candy, chocolate, popcorn and coming soon are snow cones and Wendy’s Frosties.
Remote control car racing was a big hit also!
Our residents continue to enjoy and are finding comfort through video calls and window chats with their loved ones. To set up a call or to e-mail a resident, please contact Laurie Newell Life Enrichment Director at 517-439-2830 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Through this difficult time of the Corona virus, you, our community have been phenomenal with your gifts and donations of protective equipment, meals and snacks, gift cards, notes, prayers, snow removal (from employees cars) and the Emergency Services parade. We appreciate this support more than we could ever say. Thank you sincerely from all of us at Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility.
Please be advised that the Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility is taking every step possible to
protect the Residents and staff at the facility. We are actively receiving updates and guidance
from the Centers for Disease Control, CMS, Hillsdale County Emergency Management, State
and Federal agencies. We have initiated restrictions on all non-medical staff, visitors, and
vendors to the facility. The facility has developed communication pathways to reach your loved
one via Facetime, Skype and Google Duo. You will continue to be notified of changes in
condition of your loved one... READ MORE
Verlanasarus and Jackson (the shih-tzu) spent a day with us bringing many smiles. A Leprechaun and many families are enjoying window and video chatting with their loved ones. If you would like to set up a contact with your resident please call or e-mail Laurie Newell 517-439-2830 email@example.com
With the primary concern of keeping our residents and staff healthy, and minimizing the spread of respiratory conditions, we are encouraging visitors to the facility to regularly exercise hand washing with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer. In addition, we are encouraging coughing etiquette or sneezing into the bend of your elbow or a tissue (not your hands). As we are aware, information regarding COVID-19 (coronavirus) is changing daily and the facility is monitoring this information closely. As new information is received, organized steps will be implemented as a precaution, including limiting visitations and temperature/symptoms monitoring prior to visiting... READ MORE
Before Christmas several of our Cottage employees made a video of singing and dancing to the song Rocking Around The Christmas Tree.
Ellen DeGeneres (Ellen Show) had requested that viewers send in such a video and the best would be featured in a mash video.
Our residents got a good laugh during their filming performance.
Then came the news that our Ladies were one of the BEST! In recognition of their talents Ellen sent them a gift card for $250.00 which they promptly donated to the Southern Michigan Food Bank! Way to go Ladies on your great video and donation to serve others!

Several of our staff show off their “There’s Snow one like our Residents” T shirts.
We started a New Activity in January named Awaken. This activity is designed to awaken the senses through
the use of diffused essential oil scents, CD’s with relaxing sound effects (birds, the ocean, woodland sounds),
hand massages with lavender, scripted imagery and a variety of other sensory stimulation items. This activity
is being enjoyed by our folks who prefer a quiet and relaxed, yet social setting.
Our residents are also enjoying a month of testing new desserts. They have been comparing cheesecakes,
ice cream flavors and other tasty treats each week. They offer their suggestions, then favorites will be added to the menu!
In December we celebrated with neighborhood family Christmas parties, decorated over 25 Christmas trees, enjoyed carolers from many Churches, groups and schools, played several games of Christmas Bingo, enjoyed variety of other Christmas themed activities and watched several Christmas movies from 70 year old classics to current day comedies (and Hallmark of course).
Looking forward to a New Year’s Party on January 3rd with Champaign punch, hors d’oeuvres’, games and laughter. Happy New Year from our home to yours!
November was a very busy month! We had a great turn out from the community at our annual craft show, enjoyed several entertainers and a Church Service provided by Hillsdale Town and Country Chorus. In addition to our daily activities, each neighborhood made a Grateful Quilt with residents telling what they are thankful for. A special Thank You to the Elks lodge for honoring our Veterans with a swiss steak dinner too!
We’ve started decorating for Christmas and in a week or two we welcome you to stop in and see our over 25 Christmas trees throughout our home. We LOVE Christmas and have neighborhood dinners, carolers, entertainers, and many other activities planned. We will be taking several residents to the Salk as a special treat provided by the theater. We are especially looking forward to the Hillsdale Light Up Parade where our Administrator, Denise Baker will be the Grand Marshall. Many employees will be walking in support behind our decorated bus and transport van.
Coming: January 3rd New Year Celebration! Great Music, Food, Champaign punch, decorations and much laughter as we bring in the new year!
It was great seeing everyone in their Halloween costumes at our Halloween party! Thanks to everyone who celebrated with us!
The Hillsdale High School Marching Band Played for our residents on 10/24/2019.
We especially enjoyed hearing the National Anthem but truthfully loved every minute they played!
